The Value of A Book Review

What Make a Book Worth to Read?

For a writer, publishing can be said to be a final step in the process of writing. Indeed, the author can succeed in his intentions by publishing the book, which is distributing the information or idea that he created and shared with the public for business, entertainment, or fun. However, there is one of the most critical factors for achieving this goal. How to make sure that people interested in the book? Does spending a lot of fund for the advertisements will make this goal success?

This method will do for some famous authors, but how about the unknown writer and does not have massive advertising support? There are loads of ways to respond to these issues, but one of the essential parts to succeed is its reviews. So, What is a book review? If the book review has a significant impact? Then how to make it?

The book review is a summary in the form of literary criticism, which is expressed or explained based on content, style, and merit. It provides a brief of information about the book resulting from some analysis or build upon facts.

In cases of the book written by the unnamed author, the reviews are very important. It can help the readers get more knowledge and correspondence from other people's opinions about the book. As a result, it will be developing the reader's concern in the book. On the other hand, the masterpiece of renowned authors such as William Shakespeare, J. K. Rowling, or Arthur Conan Doyle would not have a significant effect anymore to get the bookworms' attention.

Who doesn't want his book to get good reviews? Moreover, the reviews from well-known book critics such as James Wood or Michiko Kakutani, who have served as The Guardian's and The New York Times chief literary critic respectively? To get a good quality review on a book,

it's not like turning a palm. The writer should have fond of the idea that worth to get earned stakes. The book that hasn't received this kind of effect doesn't deserve success and gets reviews from those people.  However, the writers still have reasons to get some reviews, despite it coming from famous critics or not.

Whatever the reason is, it is not surprising that most book lovers will try to read some book reviews they wish before going to the bookstore. Without the reviews, the readers wouldn't know how to determine whether a book is worth reading or not. Here are some types of book reviews regularly used in the publishing industry, which the authors and readers should be familiar with.

The Long Essay Review

It is a deep-felt summary of the full contents of the book.  It isn't the review that is typically obtained by just any of the writers. The professional critic usually writes most of this type in magazines or newspapers. As hard-core readers, they provide a complimentary for the authors and the book contents in a positive way. It is in the form of thousands of words article, which results from the analysis, consideration, and evaluation of the book and the authors.

Simple Book Review

It is a brief outline or a quick summary of the book. Most of it is merely a sentence or a paragraph, which has no more than 200 words. It could be found in the book advertisement or back-cover of the book. This type of review is the author's method to communicate directly to the audience about the book genre. The writers hope that the potential readers will notice before jumping onto the next review or buying it.

An Article Review

Did you happen found or read some of the book reviews on the blog or website? Most of this review commonly wrote by amateur bibliophiles in the form of articles. It has various writing models, no rules, and depends on the perspective of each writer. In most cases, it depicts all the information in the book as an appreciation for the author. Some of the reviewers even provide support to the authors by promoting the book through their articles. However, there are also people trying to destroy the authors and the reader's interest by spoiling all the book's details. So, what kind of reviewers you want to be?

The Spoiler Review

Have you ever felt that just looking at some reviews on the internet makes you think that reading a book is not entirely necessary anymore? Yeah, it is exactly like reading a movie spoiler. All the important plots, mystery, or storylines are being revealed to the public, which creates the unsatisfying or ruins the suspense and enjoyment in watching it. It is like telling the viewers who is the real culprit or the ending of the story before they even have a chance to watch it.

Isn't the purpose of the review to draw the reader's attention? If it can't serve the reader to feel exciting and desire to buy a book, then the review's worth will only be making a counter for the authors in the opposite direction. Most of this type of reviewers don't realize that what they are doing destroys both the author and reader. The most distressing part is that they don't understand what they have done. Have you felt any guilt after taking away the reason for the people to read the book?

Nowadays, it is not a complicated thing to discover the excellent quality of the book. The readers will find many websites that provide information and mark the books they love to read by the internet's help. For example, goodreads.com, it is one of the world's largest community of book lovers that give the information, suggestion, and review about the book for its member.

In the end, regardless of the quality of the book, reviews are still necessary for the authors. It is a bit like low-budget advertising. There's no such thing as a bad and good book or somewhere in between, but it is just some part of the reviewer's diversity of ways to express and appreciate, which resembles how depth was their knowledge about the book and author. Still, the authors will feel satisfied whenever their books are being reviewed, despite the impacts varied from one another. After all the thought, time, energy, and effort they've put into writing about the books, it's what they deserve.
